Fittes exhaust mounts replace the standard plastic bathroom fan grille with something that actually looks finished. Two styles, two material tiers, and a handful of decisions that depend on your bathroom, your fan, and how much install work you want to take on. This guide walks through all of it.
Flush or Framed
The first decision: do you want the exhaust mount to disappear into the ceiling, or sit cleanly against it?
The flush mount gets skimmed with drywall compound, sanded, and painted so the ceiling reads as one unbroken plane — only a thin reveal line where ventilation happens. This is the route for mid-renovation bathroom builds where compound and tape are already part of the job, or anyone who wants a fully invisible vent cover.
The framed mount skips the compound and sanding. It sits against the ceiling with a clean architectural border — painted to match, done in an hour. The better pick for a quick bathroom fan grille replacement without the finishing work.
Quick rule: Already mid-renovation with drywall dust everywhere? Go flush. Want a visible upgrade without the finishing work? Go framed. Both maintain the same airflow as the original cover — no impact on fan performance or noise.
What the Install Looks Like
No electrical work is involved with either mount. You temporarily remove the fan from the ceiling to connect it to the mount, then put everything back. Ductwork stays in place.
Flush Mount
Remove old grille and fan. Size the ceiling opening to match the mount. Connect fan to mount — [Lite] attaches to the back, [Luxe] passes through. Secure to framing, reconnect ductwork. Two to three thin coats of compound with sanding between each, then prime and paint. About an hour of hands-on work spread across a day or two for drying.
Framed Mount
Same removal and connection process. Secure, reconnect, paint the face to match. No compound, no sanding. About an hour start to finish plus paint drying.
Tools needed: Drill, ceiling paint, and potentially a saw if the opening needs enlarging. Flush adds a drywall knife, joint compound, and sandpaper. [Luxe] may add tin snips. [Lite] DIY adapters require tools any contractor or handyman already has.
How to Choose: [Lite] or [Luxe]
Both the Flush and Framed mounts come in two material tiers. The [Lite] is ABS plastic — lightweight, takes compound and paint well, and costs less. The fan attaches to the back of the mount. The [Luxe] is metal — more rigidity, and a premium feel. The fan passes through the mount rather than sitting behind it, and it's compatible with more housings. Check the compatibility table below to see what your specific fan requires for each tier.
Fan Compatibility
Fittes Exhaust Mounts work with a wide range of bathroom exhaust fans. Not all fan housings are designed to accept aftermarket covers, and compatibility varies between Lite and Luxe models.

CleanCover & Incompatible Fans
Broan's CleanCover uses a proprietary attachment that doesn't align with the Fittes mount dimensions. If you have a CleanCover or other incompatible model, the most straightforward path is to swap the fan unit. The Panasonic WhisperCeiling DC and Panasonic WhisperValue DC are popular choices that work with all Fittes mounts.
